Music Monday

#MusicMonday Review - May 2025

osornios

#MusicMonday is the hashtag I've been using for quite a while to share music recommendations from up-and-coming artists. Always fresh, and always different, trying to look for trends before they become one. You can check April's review for more music.

Proud of being in the forefront of music trends, we travel the world to feature, for the first time, an AI produced track, mixed with more bangers from around the world. Give them a listen, with a word from the artists themselves.

Sabbir Khan Sohan – Under My Arms Tonight

SabbirKhanSohan.jpg

City lights flicker, like your name in my mind
I swore I'd forget you, leave you behind
but every road I take leads back to you

Maybe I'm losing this fight

trying to keep you outside
But here you are back in my arms

even though you're out of my mind

Our trip around the world begins in Dhaka, Bangladesh for a ballad with a haunting Piano about those relationships that just won't end. Where every goodbye turns into a new hello:

"Under My Arms Tonight came from a very personal place. It was inspired by a feeling for someone special who parted away from me. I wanted to capture the emotions of love, longing, comfort, vulnerability. The track really embodies intimate, nostalgic, passionate, and I hope listeners can connect with that feeling in their own way."

Nova Dream – Black Cinema

We're on the brink again
Something's really about to change

Let's take a huge jump to Dublin, Ireland for a dark Alt Rock track, with traces of Indie Rock and Post-Punk about how things blow away like ashes in a hurricane:

"I think that Black Cinema was more of a metaphor for channeling the everyday inner thoughts of evolution and, perhaps, the existential reckoning of what has been, what is gone, and what is yet to come.

It's purely based on personal experience and observing friends as they navigate life. I don't necessarily mean for it to sound bleak—it's more about self-reflection and how change is sometimes necessary to navigate life."

Bad Valentines – Last Days In The Sun

BadValentines.jpg

LOST BY THE GATES
LEADING NOWHERE
CAN YOU TURN BACK?
THERE'S WORLD OUT THERE
AND IT'S NOT ALL BAD
I HOPE YOU SURVIVE
THE EVIL WINDS BLOWING IN YOUR HEAD

DON'T SAY YOU'RE A LUNATIC LOSER
DON'T SAY YOU WERE BORN TO LOSE
DON'T THINK LIFE'S GOT NOTHING
FOR YOU

We travel now to Helsinki, Finland for an gritty Indie Rock track, with a touch of Punk Rock, about sliding into the dark, when life gets hard, and the burden is heavy:

"Last days in the sun is about battling depression.

It is some kind of a message, positive one, that even in the baddest moments, there is hope.

I wrote this song cos I've been going thru some effing miserable times, and I know that many of my friends have been there, too.

That sh*t tends to always come back but like I said, I do and I wanna believe in positivity. At times it's effing hard, though."

Volts Delicious – Ring the Alarm

VoltsDelicious..jpg

If you think that I am done

Well then you got me all wrong

It would be unwise

To think my fight is all gone

I remembered who I am

And forgave my mistakes

Now that they don't have a hold

I can make my escape

You chained me with your lies

I believed them all

But I was set free when I found

I'm not afraid to fall

Let's fly now to Denver, CO. for an uplifting Alt Rock track about raising up from the ashes of your past, ready to take on whatever comes next, free from the fear to fail:

"The song wasn't inspired by a specific event or person, but rather by the feelings I was experiencing as I was entering my 30s.

I was looking back at times when I was younger and felt like I had acted foolishly or made mistakes, but instead of feeling guilty for those moments like I had before, I began appreciating the experiences—loving myself and my decisions. It's a statement of strength, saying, 'Do you think I'm going to let the past hold me down? Well, you're wrong. I'm stronger than letting the past define me. You saw me when I was low, but that isn't who I am.

That was just a moment I was going through. Now that I've let go of judgment and guilt, I'm an even stronger force—so watch out."

Coraland – Places I Go

Coraland.jpg

Winner to the world
Mirror to a lonely soul

I'm medicine and fire
Running on the embers leaving

But even when I close my eyes
The sun can't slip away
I'm searching for a satellite
Far out somewhere

We end this month's trip in Gloucestershire, England for a Pop Rock track about the struggle of an inner battle with yourself, where sometimes you don't know how you'll escape from that place one more time:

"It was inspired by my experience of ADHD.

It explores the challenges of trying to fit into society, inner battles, not belonging, but also the joys of having some creative magic that often comes with ADHD, and the quirks that come with it."
