Users getting a black screen when trying to watch music videos on full screen

We've received reports from Windows users who are getting a black screen when trying to watch videos in full screen mode on the desktop app.

Hi everyone,

Our tech team is currently looking into this. In the meantime, you can try the following workaround discovered by our fellow Community members @dagermohamed and @twisted2777 - that should do the trick:

  1. Press Win + R to open Run.
  2. In the new window that shows up, type the following: SystemPropertiesAdvanced and press Enter.
  3. Under "Performance", make sure Animate controls and elements inside windows is switched on.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I was thinking about ending my subscription over this. I have been frustrated for weeks. So much better help than the actual spotify people

I am experiencing this same issue, but I am on macOS. Has anyone figured out how to resolve this on Mac? Thanks for any help.

I'm on the desktop windows app and whenever I put the play into fullscreen mode it doesn't show and photo just a solid color even when i switch it from album art to artist photo nothing shows up. I've tried uninstalling, restarting, and refreshing data.

Hey there @olipay112,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for the screenshot. It's also great that you've mentioned what troubleshooting steps you've already tried as this helps with the investigation.

We couldn't reproduce the same behavior from our end, so it's worth testing with some additional things, such as:

  • Check if it makes a difference when you scale the app by holding Ctrl + scrolling up/down with your mouse/touchpad.
  • Disable/enable Hardware Acceleration (three dots > Help > Troubleshooting).
  • A clean reinstall with these steps (if you've not followed all of them already), as it also includes clearing the cache which may be corrupted.
  • You can download Spotify on Windows both from our website and the MS store here and they can have different behavior. After the reinstall, download the app version you weren't using so far.

Let us know if any of the abovementioned steps make a difference and we're here if anything else comes up in the meantime 🙂

I've tried fresh installations, clearing cache, turning on and off hardware acceleration, and restarting pc, but full-screening still doesn't work, the spotify web app works though and scaling the app to 120% fixes it.
